Types of ink pads
The material that holds the ink can either be
- felt (which is firm and commonly used for dye inks)
- dense foam (which is commonly used for dye inks)
- light foam (which is commonly used for pigment inks)
Reinking an ink pad
For most inks, refill bottles or reinkers are available. These small bottles will contain the concentrated ink that is already in the ink pad when you buy it. This will allow you to reink the ink pad when it's running out of ink.
When you feel like an ink pad is getting dry, simply squeeze the bottle onto the ink pad and let it sit for a minute. Try to spread the ink around so the pad is completely covered.
Don't add too much ink at a time. You can always add more if you feel that the ink pad isn't juicy enough after reinking it for the first time.
Empty ink pads
You can buy empty, uninked ink pads that you can use to either
- create a new color by mixing reinkers
- create an ombre or gradient ink pad by adding different colors in stripes
- use up your reinker in case you lost, broke, sold … the initial ink pad
